Dayasiri TO MEET former national captains and administrators

SLC reacts to ICC WC 2019 non-automatic qualification

4-man committee appointed to investigate the decline and fall

Sri Lanka’s national cricket team failed to obtain direct entry to the 2019 International Cricket Council Cricket World Cup. The Sri Lankan Cricket Team will now have to battle it out in a qualifying round in order to be eligible to stand a chance at winning international cricket’s biggest prize.

With the view of resurrecting Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) from the doldrums, the Government has initiated a number of moves including summoning former national cricket captains and administrators for an urgent meeting with Minister of Sports Dayasiri Jayasekera next week.

A top SLC official informed that as an initial step a four member committee had been appointed to study the present state of affairs in relation to national cricket and advice the Executive Committee of the SLC with regard to their findings and submit recommendations in this regard. Based on the findings, the SLC will initiate a programme to enhance the players’ performance capabilities in relation to both the physical and mental aspects of the game.

The said official further noted that former Captain of the Sri Lankan Team, ace batsman Aravinda De Silva would be overseeing the entire reforms process. The reforms are expected to be implemented immediately following the conclusion of the ongoing bilateral series with India.

The SLC’s administration is also likely to see structural changes in light of the aforementioned holistic efforts to revamp the country’s favourite national pastime.
